The “Murder of Mary Phagan”, produced by George Stevens, Jr., was based on the famous true story. In Atlanta, in 1913, the brutal murder of a 13-year-old factory worker, Mary Phagan, led to the immediate arrest of Leo Frank (played by Peter Gallagher), the Jewish-American superintendent of the factory, followed by the trial and public outcry.
