It Should Happen To You

1954

Directed by George Cukor and written by Garson Kanin, this was Jack’s first feature film, co-starring with Judy Holliday. This wonderful romantic comedy tells the story of Gladys Glover (a superb Holliday,) who decides to make herself famous by taking out a billboard in New York City

Bosley Crowther, writing in The New York Times, called it “a neat piece of comic contrivance that will contribute to the joy of man” with “intelligence, compassion, and lots of gags.” … He said the role in which Jack Lemmon was cast, referring to him as the “new young man”, was “played superbly”.
